Mento plays such a role. It helps you broadcast your links to who you want. And that doesn’t just go for people on the Mento network. It doesn’t work solely on its own dimension in the cloud. If you so choose, you can broadcast links to some friends through Mento itself, or even quickly share some picks with connections on Facebook, Twitter, FriendFeed, Tumblr, del.icio.us, and Ma.gnolia. Convenient? We think so.

And it isn’t only links that you can share through Mento. The site is capable of embedding photos and videos as well, so, you know, less clicks to start consuming. A definite plus. Also, with the built-in screenshot grab option, given as part of the Firefox plugin package, which indeed works both on Windows and Mac OS X, you can share some visual cues about a particular page on the Web without going through the rigamarole of taking the shot, saving the shot, uploading the shot, and sharing the shot. Which can get tedious. Really tedious.

In short, Mento is kind of like the nearest thing to what you want in a Web service that helps you share stuff with your pals without having to do a whole lot. While del.icio.us has generally been the de facto standard for social linking sans any Digg-like voting, it isn’t quite at the level of awesomeness that Mento delivers. Of course, The Yahoo-owned brand will likely see Mento for what it is and perhaps raise it some nifty features of its own. But as for today, Mento probably has it trumped in virtually all areas.
