Further proof that Hollywood can be a cold-hearted industry.

Meryl Streep appeared on The Graham Norton Show to chat about her career and the conversation turned to one of her all-time worst audition experiences. Streep recalled the disheartening experience of auditioning for Dino De Laurentiis (the producer of 1976's King Kong), only to learn she wasn't pretty enough to take the leading female role. The role later went to Jessica Lange.
