Meshly is a new service that lets you post links to your Meshly page directly from your instant messenger.

The concept behind Meshly seems to mirror that of Digg, which lets you submit links to be commented and voted on. The purpose, though, seems to be geared towards offering a simpler way to submit links. With your instant messenger, you set up your Meshly account, login, and submit links along with a description and tag words. These links can go in any existing channel or you can create your own channel. Check out their popular or queued posts, or read all posts from a particular user. They also provide a widget that will let you see updates for popular and individual users' Meshly posts.

I had a bit of trouble using Meshly with my AOL instant messenger. Typing in a command never seemed to work properly, so I copied and pasted their example commands from the Meshly instructions. While much of Meshly is structured after Digg, they do let you create your own channels instead of having to fit into a predetermined subject. I'm wondering if there's a way to see all the Meshly channels, or perform any kind of search on Meshly. In all, this may appeal to the Twitter crowd, as it provides quick and easy ways to update the world. Layering in some of the functions that Twitter has added in recent months, such as showing a photo within posts, could improve Meshly's service.
