Recently, it's become a common practice for people to upload pictures to Twitter and video to YouTube after natural disasters and phenomena occur. It's also become common for news outlets to crowdsource these images. As you can see from the screenshot below, reporters were hitting up Twitter after the meteors were spotted in an attempt to collect images:
