The Mextures image enhancement app for iPhone aims to supercharge your Instagram photos.
The app from photographer Merek Davis combines more than 70 hi-res textures made specifically for and by photographers, including light leaks, gritty and grainy film textures, dusty vintage film scans, tasteful grunge and gradients created from actual 35mm film scans from various cameras and a multitude of other natural elements.
The app works with layers reminiscent of Photoshop and provides 12 different blending modes, so every new layer adds millions of possibilities to enhance images. The app gets really cool thanks to its “non-destructive workflow.” Forget "undo" -- simply return to a specific layer and edit it there.
The app also offers a 1:1 ratio for your photos, making it even easier to edit your Instagram photos.
Davis' app provides some inspiration to get started, too. He sourced 40 preset formulas from nine iPhone photographers for instant texture.
Mextures is climbing the charts -- it's No. 4 on the App Store right now -- and Davis is dropping the price. Currently, Mextures is being offered for 50% off its original price. You can get it for $0.99 in the App Store, but no word yet if an Android or Windows Phone counterpart is in the works.
