UPDATE, Oct. 2, 10:00 a.m. ET: Dunn now faces up to life in prison, not 75 years. This story has been updated to include this information.

A jury found a Florida man guilty of first-degree murder Wednesday for the 2012 shooting of an unarmed black teenager following an argument over playing music too loudly.

Michael Dunn, 47, had told Jordan Davis, 17, and his three friends to turn down their rap music outside of a convenience store in Jacksonville, Florida. When the teens refused, Dunn fired 10 shots with a handgun into their vehicle, three of which hit Davis, who later died of gunshot injuries.

Dunn invoked Florida's controversial Stand Your Ground law, arguing he felt threatened by Davis and was acting in self defense. The trial drew parallels to the controversial killing of Trayvon Martin, which occurred six months earlier, also in Florida.

Dunn had already been convicted in a trial in February on three counts of attempted second-degree murder, but the jury could not come to an agreement on a final charge of first-degree murder.

The jury reached a verdict in the retrial after five hours of deliberations Wednesday afternoon. Dunn already faced 60 years in prison after the first trial, and now faces up to life in prison without parole. He likely will not be sentenced until later this year.
