A Tearful Michael Sam Inspires at ESPYs

Michael Sam fought back tears in a moving acceptance speech at the 2014 ESPYs.

The first openly gay athlete to be drafted into the NFL touched on his life after coming out and offered wisdom to those still struggling for acceptance.

Sam, who was honored with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award, recited the words of Arthur Ashe himself: "Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can." Sam the broke down the advice, explaining what each sentence meant to him.

Sam went on to thank boyfriend Vito Cammisano and give powerful advice to young people struggling with acceptance.
