Microsoft plans to do more marketing and advertising for its Windows 8, Surface tablet and Windows Phone 8 group of products, than any other product in the company's history, said Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.
Speaking at a company event in Israel, Ballmer admitted that Windows Phone 8 is still far from where Microsoft wants it to be. "We're still relatively small ... I expect the volumes on Windows Phone to really ramp quickly," he said.
Ballmer also said Microsoft plans to be the third force in the smartphone market, behind Apple and Google. "With the work we have done with Nokia, HTC, Samsung and others ... there is now an opportunity to create really a strong third participant in the smartphone market," he said.
