Microsoft has released a few small but helpful updates to its Office apps for iOS, including 3D Touch features and Apple Pencil compatibility.

Word, PowerPoint and Excel apps on the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus now have 3D Touch shortcuts. By holding down the app icons on your home screen, you’ll see a dropdown menu. It's then possible to quickly create a new document, presentation or spreadsheet as soon as you launch the app. The menu will also show recently opened files, so you can revisit them quickly.

Using iOS 9’s Spotlight search feature, Office users can pull down or swipe to the left of your home screen and search for files saved in Office. That way you won’t have to open Word first and search for your document in there.

In all apps, you can download fonts on demand, so you don't have to take up storage space on your device for fonts you don't use.

On the iPad Pro, you can now use your Apple Pencil in any of the three apps. There’s even a new “annotate with ink” feature. With the tools on the new Draw tab, you can use your finger or a stylus or Apple Pencil to write, draw and highlight.

Those updates cover all three Office apps. There's also a new Morph feature for PowerPoint. Morph allows you to easily move several objects at once, making it easier to edit and rearrange content on PowerPoint slides.

You can download the latest versions of Word, PowerPoint and Excel from the App Store for free, but you’ll have to have a subscription to Office 365 to unlock the features.
