As you probably know by now, Yahoo has formally rejected Microsoft’s acquisition offer. A little over a week ago when Microsoft’s bid was first announced, Mashable readers felt rather strongly (65% in favor) that Yahoo should take the deal. To you, Yahoo says hogwash! Meanwhile, Microsoft’s stock has been falling ever since their proposal was announced, as shareholders seem to think $44.6 billion is too much to pay for Yahoo. In unrelated news, the software giant today announced the acquisition of Danger, makers of the Sidekick mobile device.

So, what should Microsoft do next? Increasing their bid for Yahoo is likely going to further depress their stock in the near-term, but all signs from Redmond over the past week signal the company is committed to the deal, even if it means taking on debt for the first time in company history. Meanwhile, if they just sit back and wait, Yahoo's shareholders may start to press their board to take Microsoft's offer.
