One marine dead and 21 injured in U.S. military aircraft crash in Hawaii

A military aircraft crashed near the Bellows Air Force Base in Waimanalo, Hawaii, on Sunday, killing one marine and injuring 21 others.

Twenty-two Marines were aboard at the time, and the other 21 were transported to local hospitals for assessment and treatment, the U.S. Marine Corps said in a statement.

The Marine Corps said in an earlier statement that the Osprey aircraft had "a hard landing mishap" during training around 11 a.m. local time.

The 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit is based at Camp Pendleton in California but were in Hawaii for training.
