Kaling explained to the LA Times that the title has, "kind of been my subconscious motto my whole life."

Since her last book, Kaling has overcome many personal and professional endeavors that might appear in the new memoir, between her mother's passing in 2012 and creating and starring in her own television show, The Mindy Project.

According to her website, the book will also tackle racist and sexist Hollywood beauty standards ("Out here, a dark-skinned woman’s traditional hair color is honey blonde.”), detail the agony and the ecstasy of female friendship, and delve into her on-again-off-again relationship with former Office costar BJ Novak.
