Mobivox, a local number service for making free or cheap phone calls across the world, has raised $11 million in a Series A round. Funding came from IDG Ventures in Boston, joined by IDG Ventues in China and Vietnam. Previous investors include Brightspark Ventures of Toronto and Skypoint Capital Corp.

Mobivox works by providing a local phone number in order to make calls from any phone. It costs about 2 cents to make calls across the globe. The service also offers group calling options, mobile-to-landline call transfer, and easy import options to add contacts from your address books on Skype, Outlook and Google.

While Mobivox isn't a VoIP service, there are several VoIPs that offer similar tools. Cellity offers similar phone services as well.
