Like many other teens, Danotiss Smith is excited for his high school prom. But the 18-year-old from Pontiac, Michigan, isn't taking someone from his class -- he's taking him mom, Belinda.

Belinda's own mother passed away from leukemia when she was just 11, leaving her family financially unstable.

Belinda told Michigan's Local 4 News that in high school, "a couple of people asked me to prom but I had to turn them down because I didn't have the funds."

After learning about his mother's prom experience, Danotiss asked her to be his date. He told ABC that he "felt like it was right to ask her." Heart of gold right there.

Belinda told ABC that she was "flattered" her son asked her, but she did check to make sure he didn't want to take a "special friend" instead. But Danotiss had even cleared it with the school's principal before asking her.

Danotiss said that some of his friends thought it was cool, while others thought it was weird.

"I am overwhelmed, I am," Belinda told Local 4 news. "I've just been waiting for this."

The prom will take place on Friday evening.
