George Clooney Fights Nazi Art Thieves in 'Monuments Men' Trailer

Starring, as well as co-written and directed by Oscar-winning actor George Clooney, The Monuments Men tells the World War II-era tale of the "greatest treasure hunt in history."

When President Franklin Delano Roosevelt assigns George Stout (played by Clooney) to recover artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and return them to their rightful owners, Stout builds a hodgepodge team of eight unlikely heroes, including museum directors, curators and art historians. The group must safely preserve 1,000 years of culture from destruction at the hands of Hitler.

Released on Thursday, the above trailer gives a glimpse at what's at stake -- the daunting odds, the meager team and some dicey run-ins. Rounding out the cast are Matt Damon, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, Hugh Bonneville and John Goodman. Grant Heslov co-wrote the script with Clooney.

The Monuments Men is slated for a Dec. 18 release. Check out the trailer; then let us know what you think in the comments.
