The class action lawsuit against YouTube that was initiated by the English Premier League has gotten eight more parties to join the bandwagon.

The new members include a lot more sports groups, such as the Rugby Football League, the Finnish Football League Association. There's also author Daniel Quinn, some video programming owners, and the National Music Publisher's Association, which is the largest US music publishing trade group. You'll remember also that Robert Tur is joining in on the fun as well, meaning he'd have to dump his own lawsuit against YouTube, which gained support from NBC and Viacom (though Viacom's own $1 billion lawsuit against YouTube kept Viacom from legally helping Tur too much).

Writing about this every day is getting a bit redundant, so I hope YouTube finds a fix, quick. Google maintains that these companies (all gazillion of them) are misinterpreting the Digital Millineum Act. So it will take a big company and a big lawsuit to really address the nitty gritty details of the legal issues surrounding the sharing capabilities of content on the Internet (enter: YouTube and English Premier's snowballing court case). Nevertheless, the outcome will have a lasting impact on the industry overall. What that means for corporate interests is yet to be determined--that's what the courts are for.
