MotionDSP, the designs software that improves the quality of online videos, has received investment as well as contracts from In-Q-Tel, the investment arm of the CIA. The investment amount was not disclosed. MotionDSP has previously raised nearly $1 million, with $500,000 from angel investors, and has received $1 million in contracts.

It's not surprising that there have been no details released on the plans the CIA has for MotionDSP, but it's safe to guess that it will have a lot to do with surveillance. MotionDSP specializes in quality improvement of videos from mobile phones, digital cameras and security cameras as well. Copyright detection and video matching services are also available.

It's service is often used for forensics as well as social networking sites, and the company has been able to scale for the purpose of processing tens of thousands of user-generated videos each day. The frame-by-frame pixel tracking improves low-resolution images so that a more coherent image is provided to the user. The service is provided as a downloadable desktop application or as a hosted web service.
