One of the coolest features of Motorola's Moto X smartphone is the Moto Maker customization tool, and the Moto G is one of the best budget Android devices on the market. Now it seems Moto Maker could be coming to the Moto G.

Mashable freelancer Evan Blass tweeted a leaked image on Monday of what appears to be third-generation, not-yet-released Moto G phones.

The leaked image shows a much wider array of color options than currently offered by the snap-in "shells" for the Moto G, and hints at the ability to customize the back colors and back metal strip. Currently, the Moto G offers snap-in "shells" to change the color of the back of the phone, with seven color options.

The Moto Maker tool lets you make a device as elegant, ugly or hip as you want by offering the ability to pick colors and materials on Motorola's website.

The leaked shot seems to indicate Moto Maker for the Moto G won't share the Moto X's options of wood or leather, which would make sense given the G's more budget-minded status.

In our review of the first-generation Moto G, we called it "the best budget Android phone on the market, period," and the second generation was a further improvement.

Moto Maker customization should help set the already-great Moto G apart in a crowded market. It's an important phone for Motorola, as it directly targets emerging markets with its low price off-contract.

Motorola generally announces new and updated products around the end of August or early September, so perhaps we'll see the official unveiling around then.

Blass is known for the frequency and accuracy of his leaks, so this feature will probably be something we see put into production.
