Mount Shindake, a volcano located on the island of Kuchinoerabujima off the southwest coast of Japan, erupted on Friday morning at 10 a.m. local time.

This video shows a scuba diver recording the eruption of Mount Shindake from off the coast of nearby Yakushima.

As of May 26, the Japan Meteorological Agency reported Kuchinoerabujima was at an alert level of 3 (out of 5). It has since been raised to a 5, and an evacuation order has been issued for all residents of the island.
