MSNBC Grabs @BreakingNews Twitter Account and its 1.4 Million Followers

Here’s an interesting deal in the Twitter space. MSNBC has signed a deal with BNO News whereby they’ll take over management of the @BreakingNews Twitter feed, which has amassed more than 1.4 million followers.

According to PaidContent, BNO “will now focus on developing its subscription-based wire service to sell to news companies.” Terms of the deal are not being disclosed, but according to the report, MSNBC doesn’t get any equity in BNO but rather becomes a paying client of the news service (with the significant perk of control of the Twitter account).

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a popular Twitter account sell to a big media company. Back in April, CNN acquired @cnnbrk, an account that had seemingly beaten the network to its own punch by building a following for breaking CNN headlines.
