While Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar dominated MTV's Video Music Award nominations Tuesday, several stunning videos and perennial VMA favorites were ignored.
Even MTV royalty wasn't immune: Madonna's apocalyptic "Ghosttown" video and Britney Spears' intergalactic "Pretty Girls" romp, co-starring Iggy Izalea, both failed to earn nods.
Below, let's take a look at 15 other videos that were snubbed by the VMAs voting panel.
Disclaimer: I was among those asked to cast a nominations ballot.
Vance Joy -- 'Georgia'
That twist! We won't spoil it, but grab a tissue.
Pussy Riot -- 'I Can't Breathe'
Filmed in just one take, Pussy Riot wears riot police gear in a grave while being smothered in thick soil to represent the unrest in Russia and Eric Garner's death in the U.S.
Childish Gambino -- 'Telegraph Ave'
Well, that escalated quickly. Scary Gambino. Stay until the end.
Phantoms -- 'Broken Halo'
Runaway bride alert!
TV On the Radio -- 'Happy Idiot'
Pee-wee Herman as a race car driver? Sure, we'll come along for the ride.
Carly Rae Jepsen -- 'I Really Like You'
Four words: Tom Hanks. Swipe right.
Rihanna ft. Kanye and Paul McCartney -- 'FourFiveSeconds'
A denim-clad Rihanna wipes away tears while a sweaty Kanye West flails and a chill Paul McCartney strums his guitar in this subdued, black-and-white music video. And the square composition seems tailor-made for the Instagram generation.
Big Sean ft. Drake and Kanye West - 'Blessings'
Insert praying emoji here, because these rappers just found a stairway to heaven.
Gwen Stefani -- 'Spark the Fire'
Speaking of emoji: no video used more of them than this one.
Tinashe -- 'All Hands on Deck'
What's hot? This dance sequence inside shipping crates. Damn.
Jenny Lewis -- 'Just One of the Guys'
Jenny Lewis explores gender norms with help from Anne Hathaway and Kristen Stewart.
Weird Al -- 'Tacky'
It's so tacky while poking fun at the celebrity-cameos trope that it works.
Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé -- 'Feeling Myself'
Just two powerful gals hanging out. No big deal, except for that hamburger scene.
Shamir -- 'Call It Off'
Puppet dance party. What more do you need?
Mastodon -- 'The Motherload'
Metal music plus twerking. Newly appointed VMAs host Miley Cyrus would approve.
