Since 1984, MTV has crowned 31 music videos with the title of Video of the Year.

Another will join the pantheon of winners at Sunday's Video Music Awards. In contention are Beyoncé's "7/11," Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud," Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar's "Bad Blood," Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars "Uptown Funk" and Kendrick's "Alright."

Take a trip down memory lane with this roundup of past Video of the Year champions, including Peter Gabriel, Madonna, Pearl Jam, TLC, Sinéad O'Connor, Aerosmith, Eminem, Lauryn Hill, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake and, most recently, Miley Cyrus.
