Since joining Twitter in December, Mumbai Police has been steadily wining Twitter with its witty 140-character wordplay. Over the last months, its accounts have tweeted public service messages on issues such as cyber stalking, traffic safety and an anti-drugs campaign, but with a dose of humour.

The tweets make clever use of puns, hashtags, as well as memes like 'Be Like Bill' to get attention. The tweets sent out by Mumbai Police chief Ahmad Javed also makes frequent use of funny one-liners. The two handles @MumbaiPolice and @CPMumbaiPolice are being handled by a private Mumbai-based digital agency Trivone for the first three months, which is also training a team of police officials in Twitter.

With over 30 thousand followers and several viral tweets, the humour seems to be working. Here's a selection of their most popular tweets in the last few weeks.
