LONDON – Parents might be able to embarrass their kids one day, but when the kids are still fairly young – during that blissful age where they themselves seem immune to embarrassment – the power definitely lies in their hands.

Brilliantly sweary Facebook page The Unmumsy Mum – a sort of no-holds-barred parenting forum mixed with laugh-out-loud anecdotes – kicked off a series of awkward stories recently, which started with the following message sent directly to the page's owner.

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));Struggling to remember what life was like before I received such gems via message. Anonymity granted as promised ;-)Posted by The Unmumsy Mum on Tuesday, September 1, 2015

Other mums quickly starting chipping in with their own experiences.

While others were just generally awkward moments in public.

One even came with an illustration.

There are only two possible explanations for stories like this: either children just have an innate, natural ability to create awkward situations or somewhere, deep down, they secretly know exactly what they're doing. And they do it on purpose.
