The app lets you search YouTube for tracks and albums, which you can play in two virtual "decks" or save as playlists for later. Features such as Auto DJ (which automatically switches to the next track) and crossfade make the DJing experience quite enjoyable. The app also supports some simple effects, such as "brake" and "reverb," as well as additional loops and sounds you can play over the songs.

Unfortunately, you can't take the app a step further and create meaningful song mashups. To try out the application, I've mixed up two fine tunes: ****** ******'s acoustic rendering of "One Time," and White Zombie's "More Human Than Human." Trying to properly mix these two songs together reveals that something is definitely missing from Muziic DJ: pitch control. All the loops and effects aren't nearly as effective if you cannot control the pitch of the tunes. We've contacted David Nelson, the author of the app, and he claims it's a restriction on YouTube's part.

"There are a lot of restrictions with the YouTube API, if you want to follow their terms, so that is why certain things like pitch adjustment are not an option," he says.

It's a pity, since the app would definitely gain another dimension with this feature. Still, if YouTube is an important source of music for you, especially at parties, then Muziic DJ might be right up your alley. For other applications similar to Muziic DJ, check out the playlist-oriented TurnTubeList or the far more simple YouTubeDJ.
