In the whimsical world of cosplay, some truly devoted geeks spend their time and money on creating costumes that rival that of the original's. Others, like artist Patrick Dean, dream up costumes using a keen sense for extreme thriftiness.

That's the idea behind Dean's illustrated Tumblr, My Half Assed Cosplay Ideas, which imagines ways to piece together costumes using the cheapest materials available. Think: Batman wearing a cape made from a bed sheet and bat ears crafted from blue duct tape.

Dean told Mashable that the inspiration for My Half Assed Cosplay Ideas came to him in a dream.

"I had a dream one night that I went to a comic convention dressed in a last-minute Ant-Man costume, consisting of red pants and turtleneck, cowboy boots, goggles and a silver motorcycle helmet," he said. After a friend suggested he put his ideas down on paper, Dean got to work.

"So I drew the first entry featuring Ant-Man, and from there started figuring out a bunch of other superhero outfits that could be cobbled together from thrift stores, dollar stores, or clothes you might already have in your closet," he said.
