It emerged over the weekend that MySpace is on a charge in New Zealand, entering Hitwise's Top 20 in September. From the week ending February 11th to the week ending 30th September, MySpace's rank jumped from number 40 to number 20. That brings MySpace a step closer to Bebo, which ranks 6th in New Zealand according to Hitwise and 1st in the "Net Communities & Chat" category. But the gap is still wide - Bebo has 23% market share within that category, while MySpace only has 9%. What's more, the whole category is booming - the Net Communities & Chat category has grown from 4.8% of NZ visits in January to 5.3% in September - in other words, New Zealanders love social networking.
