MySpace + Health = MyHealthSpace from TauMed

Taumed, a free health social network, is officially launching its "My Health Space" network on April 3rd (seriously, finding out about new startups was the best use we could find for our time machine - Ed).

The new service offers a personalized option for Taumed users, enabling them to subscribe to various health channels, save community questions, build and share a personal library of health information, and view others' libraries to find additionally relevant resources. "My Health Space" also incorporates a type of bookmarking community, similar to del.icio.us, as an easy way to tailor information regarding your health.

Taumed's network offers a forum for users to ask questions and receive answers from other users, ala Yahoo Answers. You can also start a HealthShare group for discussions around a health topic. Taumed's search engine already provides information for people researching health-related issues, and includes a directory of hospitals and doctors around the U.S.

This level of personalization for the under-served online health sector is a great idea, and is just now starting to take shape with other sites such as WebMD. Some additional companies that build social networks around health include Organized Wisdom and Revolution Health, founded by AOL co-founder Steven Case.
