Clearly, music is the perceived key to MySpace's comeback. Today we have further proof of this notion in the form of a new beta product: MySpace Music Charts.

The global music charts product is like a Billboard, version 2.0, and builds on MySpace's massive collection of music engagement data to create top charts for artists, songs, albums, and music videos, all of which can be further sliced and diced by genre, country, and status (unsigned, indie, or major).

The MySpace Music Charts doesn't appear to be a half-baked initiative, but instead a product with real value for MySpace music lovers and anyone else interested in music trends. On top of exploring trending music, users can play tracks right from the chart, drag and drop songs listed on the chart to create instant playlists, view the songs their MySpace friends are playing, and of course buy the songs that make a lasting impression.

MySpace Music President Courtney Holt writes, "When it comes to users, our commitment to “interestingness” will drive engagement. Our audience cares about two things- what’s bubbling up and what’s hot right now- and our editorial teams are focused on actively surfacing the most interesting and relevant artists, music and content to satisfy their needs. We also understand that the interests of our users change based on trends which is why the pulse of this charts system is the new “Movers” section, offering users and artists alike an immediate “in the moment” view at who and what is trending up in music across our network."
