Pickle Channels, which launched a few moments ago, is all about sharing videos and photos on MySpace, hi5, Piczo et al. That's an idea we've heard hundreds of times recently, but Pickle's differentiator is supposedly its focus on mobile: you can send photos straight from your cameraphone to your MySpace widget. You can also create "TV channels" by putting a series of videos together. Another interesting feature: visitors can contribute to your channel, and you can moderate all the content coming in. Pickle's original version came with a widget, but clearly the launch of Channels is about scrapping the original idea and focusing on the only part that has a chance of success.

Mashable readers had a head start on this trend, of course - we saw this wave coming way back in early '06 (see Feeding the MySpace Beast). Social sites have started to realize that they're too abundant to survive alone, and they need to start plugging in to bigger services. It's a risky game, of course, since MySpace can ban your service without any recourse. But when the only other choice is running out of money and disappearing into obscurity, many startups think it's worth taking the MySpace bet.

Pickle's competitors now include RockYou, Slide.com, Photobucket and perhaps even YouTube.
