Despite the debut of MySpaceIM back in September 2006, the company will formally launch the service on Wednesday. Not many services can "launch" with 17 million users worldwide, a number that makes MySpace IM one of the largest IM clients already (AIM, by comparison, has 63 million users).

Features include integration with MySpace profiles and comments, a music player that plays tracks from MySpace profiles, and the ability to send “zaps” (sound bites) to friends. Don't go fooling yourself that the IM client's success has anything to do with the feature set, however: MySpaceIM is big because MySpace is. By those numbers, about 10% of users were coerced into making the download.
