Free MySpace Music Downloads?

A MySpace hack has rendered it possible to download music from others' pages for free.

With a site called MySpaceMP3.org, you can enter a band name and download all of the mp3s that are hosted on their page. These songs will be directly downloaded from myspacedn.com, which is where MySpace stores music utilizing URLs that are unique, and can only be used once. So once you download it, the song will lose its filname, and you'll have to rename and retag each song you download. It also looks like the songs are encoded at a pretty low quality.

Now, taking all of that into consideration, it may not be worth the trouble for most people out there. And I can only imagine what MySpace will do in response to this little hack. The last MySpace hacker that got caught seemed to get off pretty easily. Hopefully they'll just install a better system for supporting an actual marketplace for artists' songs.

A similar opportunity popped up when Netflix was hacked as well. In related news, Qtrax may soon offer a way to get better quality music that you can download freely and legally, though the launch process seems to have been stalled yet again.
