If you’re into Web applications that have to do with voice, and want to dig beneath the top-level products of Skype, Gizmo Project, Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk, etc., there’s a collection of widgets and things gathered from around the Web into a gallery at MyVox that might just have what you’re looking for.
Most application have been developed elsewhere. One name that quickly jumps out among documented publishers is RockYou, which as you may know, is a competitor to Slide. The product that MyVox is showcasing on its page is called RockYou Voicemail. The widget allows users to leave messages wherever you have it installed.
Also, application author Mo K. has featured two widgets, one of which you may find useful, called Voice Map. It is a mashup of Google Maps and the MyVox API, and allows you to create a custom map on top of which you can record a message to embed in one or more pushpins. Good idea? Depends. If you enjoy the medium of voice, you may find it a rather appealing mix of utilities.
