Just eight games into his NBA career, it's clear number-one draft pick Karl-Anthony Towns will be a superstar.

But not that long ago -- Towns is a rookie who played only one season at Kentucky -- he was a wide-eyed student reporter interviewing a "basketball idol" in Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant.

Shown during a NBA on TNT broadcast and subsequently posted to Reddit, the fairly amazing footage shows a baby-faced high school freshman holding his mic up to a bonafide NBA superstar .

Towns is looking up to Durant there, but now stands seven feet tall and has a few inches on his former idol. Through eight games, Towns is averaging more than 16 points and 10 rebounds per contest. He's also capable of monster outings like this one:

Towns' Timberwolves and Durant's Thunder meet Jan. 12 -- which will be a perfect time to give their old interview another watch.
