This news is -- wait for it -- legendary.
Neil Patrick Harris wed long-time partner David Burtka on Saturday in a castle in Perugia, Italy, the actor shared on Twitter Monday morning.
Guess what? @DavidBurtka and I got married over the weekend. In Italy. Yup, we put the 'n' and 'd' in 'husband'. pic.twitter.com/R09ibF41rt— Neil Patrick Harris (@ActuallyNPH) September 8, 2014
Harris and Burtka have been dating for 10 years and have two children together. They announced their engagement on Twitter in June 2011, following the passing of the Marriage Equality Act in New York -- even though Harris said they had secretly gotten engaged in 2006.
David and I did propose to each other, but over five years ago! We've been wearing engagement rings for ages, waiting for an available date.— Neil Patrick Harris (@ActuallyNPH) June 25, 2011
According to E! News, the grooms both wore custom Tom Ford tuxedos and Pam Fryman, How I Met Your Mother director, officiated the ceremony. The couple's friend Elton John also performed at the reception.
Kelly Ripa, who also attended the ceremony, shared details about the wedding on Monday's Live With Kelly and Michael, saying, "The food was amazing," and they had magic tricks because "Neil is way into magic."
She added that the couple's twin children, Gideon and Harper, were apart of the festivities. Harper served as flower girl and Gideon, who was supposed to be ring bearer, was instead an "Orange Boy," sporting a tux and top hat and passing out oranges.
