New Year's Google doodle hatches unexpected surprise

When the clock struck midnight on the East Coast, the string of excited birds Google used to mark New Year's Eve finally got what they were waiting for.

The green egg that had replaced Google's "L" in the colorful doodle hatched, but baby 2016 took many forms.

When you click on the doodle now, either a duck, alligator or tower of turtles pops out. All seem genuinely confused about the festive welcome.
