Ah, the New York City subway system. Whether you’re a native New Yorker, a tourist or somewhere in between, you’ve likely noticed the assortment of artwork adorning the inside of many of the city’s train stations.

If you’ve wanted to learn more about these projects and the artists who created them, you’re in luck. New York’s Underground Art Museum: MTA Arts & Design went on sale Nov. 11. This new publication offers an expanded follow-up to Along the Way, published nearly a decade ago in 2006, and includes almost 100 works of art that have been added to local stations since then.

Art aficionados and curious minds alike will enjoy exploring 300 colorful depictions and details about some of the best artwork within the Metro Transportation Authority’s collection, particularly as we near the 30th anniversary of the Arts & Design (formerly called Arts for Transit) program’s birth. The program was developed at a time when there was a national drive to preserve public art.

Here are 12 of the featured works, including the newly installed Sky Reflector-Net.
