Internet Week New York is a week-long festival of events saluting New York's thriving Internet industry. But don’t get caught thinking it’s a “week for developers”. Instead there is a varied line-up, including a focus on film. Here’s a sampling of some of the film-related events taking place in New York during Internet Week:
Werner Herzog in conversation with Jonathan Demme – Director Jonathan Demme (“Silence of the Lambs”) will interview Werner Herzog (“Rescue Dawn”) about his pioneering work as a fiction and documentary filmmaker (Thursday, June 5th, 6:30pm The Times Center)
Media Overseas Conversations – In collaboration with the Media That Matters online film festival, Duende Pictures will be hosting three days of panels and screenings from June 5-7.
Where Film and Internet Collide: Watch, Learn, and Play: IndieGoGo, a site for connecting filmmakers and fans for indie film production, has three film-related events in collaboration with Filmmaker Magazine, IFP, and TubeMogul:
Watch - (Thursday June 5th, 8:30-11pm at the IFC Center) Series of short screenings, including Isabella Rossalini's Green Porno, NYFF45: Part 2, starring Nicole Kidman and Willem Dafoe
Learn - (Sunday June 8th 3:00– 4:30pm at Soho Apple Store) Panel discussion identifying online media's future trends and actions to take now. Panelists include: Saskia Wilson Brown (Current TV), Brendan Choisnet (Director, Cult of Sincerity), Alex Johnson (formerly of Deep Focus), Ted Hope (Producer), and moderator Janet Brown (Cinetic Media)
Party - (Sunday June 8th 8:00pm – 12:00am at Chinatown Brasserie) Share cocktails with film talent and media movers and shakers. Stella Artois beer, tasty dim sum, and drink specials.
