A 25-year-old black man said New York City police entered his home and beat him on Dec. 15, after an officer allegedly asked for the man's ID when he saw the man's dog was outside without a leash.

The man, Nicholson Gregoire, went back inside, he said to grab his ID. But police rang the door bell until his grandmother answered, then tried to arrest Gregoire.

In video recorded by Gregoire's girlfriend, Gregoire struggles for several minutes with two officers, holding up his ID for them to view and, at one point, grabbing an officer around the neck.

After several minutes of tussling between the three, a pack of additional officers arrive at the house. One of them appears to slam Gregoire's head into a wall several times, while others appear to punch him. Officers sprayed Gregoire three times with pepper spray, according to The New York Daily News.

Police charged him with resisting arrest and assaulting an officer.

Gregoire, who studies biology at Nassau Community College, is out on bail. He plans to file a notice of claim against New York City.
