New York Train Derailment Kills at Least 4, Injures Dozens

At least 4 people were killed and 60 injured after a Metro-North commuter train jumped a curved section of track just outside of New York City Sunday morning, according to a report from WABC.

The derailment happened near Palisades Avenue and Independence Avenue in the Bronx at 7:20 a.m. ET Sunday, WABC reported. The train was due to arrive at Grand Central Station at 7:43 a.m ET, inbound from Poughkeepsie.

WABC reported that five of the train's seven cars went off the tracks, and two flipped onto their side, close to the Harlem River.

Firefighters had to smash through the glass on several cars to rescue passengers.

One passenger on the train, Frank Tatulli, told WABC that he rides the same route every Sunday, and the train was traveling faster than it normally did.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and the National Transportation Safety Board are currently investigating the accident. For those who want to follow the incident live, WABC is streaming their coverage online.

Many Twitter and Instagram users took pictures of the crash site from the distance both right after it happened, and later in the day.
