Nearbie, the site that puts social networking in the context of history, is announcing new features for their latest release. We first mentioned Nearbi when they initially launched in March.

Nearbie's new features focus on better site interaction and connectivity. Users can now browse through the site's history in an easier fashion, going from your own profile to a friend's, and veering off into the history of a location your friend has been to. This meandering usually transfers into longer site visits, and offers a circular approach to the basics of who, what, when, why and how. Nearbie has also made it easier for you to contribute your own piece of history, with just one click in some instances. Users can now add related events, images, or extra information. Nearbie is becoming a Wikipedia of sorts.

While Nearbie's improvements are heading in the right direction, it would be great to see even more emphasis on the time aspect of history, even making it a pivot point for searches in relation to a user, location, or event. Nearbie's searches are very focused on location, and choosing a starting place for a new search would be more enticing if I knew how many items have already been added by other users. In all, we say "keep up the good work."
