You've probably never heard of Havard Rugland. But "Kickalicious?" Maybe that rings a bell.
It's the title of Rugland's astounding trick-kick YouTube video, which went viral shortly after hitting the web in September. The compilation, embedded above, has since been viewed more than 3 million times. It features Rugland kicking footballs with jaw-dropping levels of power and accuracy.
He kicks the ball backward over his head into a bin several yards away. He boots it 50 yards through a pair of goalposts. He kicks it into a moving car, into a gliding canoe and to rolling skateboarder.
But the funniest part is that, prior to making "Kickalicious," the 28-year-old Norwegian knew next to nothing about American football.
Now he's headed to the States with an NFL contract -- all thanks to "Kickalicious" and the mysterious power of the Internet.
The Detroit Lions signed Rugland Thursday to a deal reportedly worth as much as $1.485 million over three years. He'll have a chance this fall to compete with 12-year NFL veteran David Akers for the team's starting job. Rugland's deal is reportedly not guaranteed, however -- meaning he could also be cut at a moment's notice.
