UPDATE: It was brought to our attention by Carolina social media specialist Coop Elias that this interaction was actually a reference to another tweet that took place back more than a month ago. Our original story remains, and the update is below.

More like Netfix and shot down in flames before millions of eyeballs on the global town square.

Everyone on the Internet knows by now that "Netflix and chill" is basically Millennial-ese for the physical act of love, coitus.

Make that everyone but the Carolina Hurricanes, who tweeted a highly awkward suggestion to an NHL opponent on Tuesday night. This is a tragicomedy in four acts.

I. The Hurricanes and Dallas Stars were scheduled to face off Tuesday night. Before the game, the Hurricanes account tweeted this to the Stars.

.@DallasStars time for hockey and chill? pic.twitter.com/ADiGnOv2fT— Carolina Hurricanes (@NHLCanes) December 9, 2015

II. By "hockey and chill," any 2015 Internet Person would naturally assume the Hurricanes meant -- well, we'll let Gregory Baxter explain.

@NHLCanes @DallasStars we're gonna fuck Dallas?— Gregory Baxter (@Cfd356) December 9, 2015

LOL. Basically. You the real MVP, Greg.

III. The Stars, to their credit, were a little more tactful.

.@NHLCanes uhhh....don't think that phrase means what you think it means.— Dallas Stars (@DallasStars) December 9, 2015

IV. To which the Hurricanes could do nothing but lamely reply.

@DallasStars Inconceivable!— Carolina Hurricanes (@NHLCanes) December 9, 2015

The score of the game, by the way, was 6-5 to Dallas -- meaning the Hurricanes took a pair of losses Tuesday night.

But hey, at least it's not as bad as that time the Toronto Maple Leafs got ethered by a fan.

UPDATE: As subsequently pointed out, Tuesday's "Netflix and chill" reference was a reference to this reference from November:

Hockey and chill pic.twitter.com/fGD60xrG3x— Carolina Hurricanes (@NHLCanes) November 7, 2015

Which also went over much the same:

@NHLCanes u guys know that means sex right?— papi holidays (@jocelynseip) November 7, 2015
