Nicaragua's Momotombo volcano erupts for the first time in a century

Momotombo, Nicaragua's long dormant volcano, sprang to life this week, spewing ash, smoke and glowing rock nearly 3,000 feet in the air, reports the Associated Press.

This is Momotombo's most significant eruption since 1905. In 1610, a major eruption forced the city of Leon to relocate 30 miles away.
