For this week's Mashable Photo Challenge, take cool shots at night. Darkness lends itself to a completely new set of photo opportunities, so take advantage of those hours.

Whether you're using long exposure to capture busy highway traffic and star trails, or catching dark shades that are only visible at night, plan out your composition to ensure you have everything you need to shoot in a low light setting.

Humza Deas, a New York-based street artist, will be our guest host. He practices this style often, visiting train tracks and building rooftops to capture the craziest nighttime views.

Deas, a Brooklyn native, became interested in photography while he was an avid skater. His videographer captured him in action, and Deas was amazed at how great the photos looked once they were posted on Instagram. "I wanted to produce images like that, instead of my own skate photos and horrible selfies," he said.

At just 17, Deas is one of the few teenage street photographers to reach Instagram fame. He has close to 115,000 followers, and his work has been featured in publications such as New York Magazine, Business Insider and more. "My favorite thing about Instagram is being able to share your vision with other creative individuals," he said.

Deas will choose his favorite nighttime photography submissions early next week, and we'll feature them on our site. To enter, share your images by March 8 at 10 p.m. ET using the hashtag #MashPics_Nighttime.

Photography tips from Deas:

1. Always carry your tripod, no matter what. I use my tripod for both still images and long exposures.

2. Light is everything, even at night. If it's a portrait, have the subject stand under a light source for better exposure.

3. Time your images. If there's anything that can possibly add more light to your image, wait for it. For example, trains, cars, etc.
