Last week, we asked our photo community to venture out past sunset and photograph the night sky. We wanted to see light paintings, office building fluorescents illuminating blackened city streets and portraits taken in low light settings.
Our guest host was New York-based street artist Humza Deas, a 17-year-old photographer who shoots primarily in the dark.
"It was inspiring to see so many amazing images from each artist," Deas said. "I've learned from Instagram not to follow one specific trend, but to embrace all of the different styles."
Take a look through Deas' favorite #MashPics_Nighttime submissions below.
1. Thank you for playing
Deas says: @Cainite composed this image in a great way; I loved how he saw amazing color from the building and followed some rules to successfully capture this image.
2. Light show
Deas says: I choose this image from @Thompsonlxs_ because I love how he went out of the box to go find a unique perspective of the George Washington Bridge. Great use of steel wool to add some lighting to your subject.
3. Wednesday night interlude
Deas says: @Kmontero_, this shot is amazing. Great idea of capturing an amusement park from an aerial perspective rather than the usual rooftop images.
4. Make portraits
Deas says: @Ilitchpeters, this portrait stands out from the rest of the ones I've usually seen at night. Great idea on bringing a prop out on a night shoot. I truly love her emotion and the mood of this image.
5. Nightlights
Deas says: @Stef.c.photo, wonderful job of successfully capturing the details of the clock tower and the fog.
6. Glad I'm home
Deas says: @Georgevoniatis, congrats on having the opportunity to capture a lighting photo. The execution on this was great.
7. Dendrites
Deas says: @Dcambaxp, this was by far the best image I've seen in this challenge. I love everything about this image. Great job on capturing the moment.
Mashable also selected a few honorary mention photos to feature.
