Nikola Tesla Statue Could Be Built in Silicon Valley

To commemorate a true innovator, a California company wants to get a statue of Nikola Tesla erected in Silicon Valley.

Tesla discovered various innovations in sectors including electromagnetics, electricity and earthquake machinery. In honor of Tesla, Silicon Valley company Northern Imagination is trying to raise $123,000 on Kickstarter to make the statue a reality.

The proposed statue would be built in Palo Alto, Calif., home to many tech companies, startups and near Stanford University. The statue rendering depicts Tesla holding a lightbulb, demonstrating a wireless electricity concept.

In line with Silicon Valley's tech culture, the statue will even serve as a free Wi-Fi hotspot. The statue base will also house a time capsule with predictions from Kickstarter backers that will be opened in the year 2043.

With less than two days left to go in the Kickstarter campaign, as of Friday evening, backers had pledged only around $71,000 of the project's $123,000 goal.

An Indiegogo crowdfunding project recently raised more than $1.3 million for securing Telsa's old workshop in New York state, in order to eventually turn it into a museum.
