Nokia Reports $755 Million Loss in Q3 2012
Nokia has trimmed down its Q3 losses to €576 million ($755 million), down from the net loss of €826 million ($1.08 billion) in the previous quarter, the company has announced.
The struggling Finish mobile giant generated €7.2 billion ($9.4 billion) in sales and sold 2.9 million Lumia devices in the quarter.
Apple Loses Tablet Patent Battle in the UK
Apple lost its appeal over a court's ruling that Samsung did not copy the iPad with its Galaxy tablet, Reuters reports.
In July 2012, the UK court famously explained that Samsung's Galaxy tablet, despite certain similarities, is simply "not as cool" as the iPad to be confused with that device. Now, it upheld the ruling, which also forces Apple to run ads in printed newspapers and on websites stating that Samsung did not copy the iPad.
Verizon Announces Q3 2012 Results, Sees Strong LTE Adoption
Verizon has added 1.5 million postpaid users in Q3 2012, increasing its user base to 96 million, the company has announced. Smartphone sales in Q3 were 6.8 million, and 4.5 million LTE devices were activated in the quarter, up from 3.2 million in Q2.
Total operating revenues in the quarter were $29 billion on a consolidated basis, an increase of 3.9%t compared with the same period last year. Consolidated operating income in Q3 was $5.5 billion, up from $4.6 billion in Q3 2011.
