In the hours leading up to the Microsoft Windows Phone 8 event in Seattle, Verizon Wireless announced it will be adding the new Nokia Lumia 822 smartphone to its product lineup.
The device -- a variant of the Lumia 820 that runs the Windows Phone 8 operating system -- is Verizon's first Nokia phone in about three years. The LTE-capable smartphone will be available in black, white and grey.
The move is a part of a greater effort by Nokia to compete against market leaders Apple and Samsung -- the company recently slipped off the list of the top five smartphone manufacturers.
The Lumia 822 comes with a dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, a 4.3-inch display, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, though models with up to 64GB are available. It also boasts an 8-megapixel camera, a 1.2-megapixel HD front-facing camera and 11 hours of talk time.
