Nokia's Stunning Refocus App Now Available for Download

HELSINKI, Finland -- Nokia announced on stage during Finnish startup conference Slush that its Refocus app for Windows Phones is now available for download. The app, first unveiled at Abu Dhabi in October, allows users to give photos an artsy twist by emphasizing certain focal points and colors, while letting friends on Facebook play with how they see the picture, too.

Similar to the Lytro camera, the Refocus app calls out depths and colors in your shots. Check out the image above, which displays all colors in full view, and the picture below, which instead highlights the male subject's yellow shirt.

Users who share the Refocus pictures on social media sites such as Facebook (via SkyDrive) will give friends access to the refocusing tools, even non-Lumia owners.

Samuli Hänninen, vice president of software program management for Nokia’s Smart Devices business, told Mashable at the event that the move is part of an effort to give Lumia users more control over the pictures they take.

"It gives more context of the story you want to tell," Hänninen said. "It makes the images come alive, and you can combine it with different colors and make it as artistic as you want."

For those with the Amber software update on all Lumia devices with a PureView camera, click here to download the app.
